In the first seven events of LIV Golf’s inaugural season, the Saudi-backed circuit has prize money payouts of $25 million for its individual and team components. For its eighth and final event of 2022, the upstart tour is doubling that.
The overall purse for the LIV Golf Team Championship – Miami is $50 million, with the four-man team that wins on Sunday earning $16 million to split among its members.
This week’s event is solely a team competition, being played at Trump National Doral in Florida, and it’s employing a unique format. On Friday, the four highest seeded teams among the 12 total receive byes. The remaining eight teams will compete in a head-to-head match-play bracket with the teams playing a mix of singles and foursome matches.
The four winning teams play the top four seeds on Saturday in a similar format. The four teams that advance from there will compete on Sunday, but the players will then play stroke play, with all four members’ scores counting to the team total.
