2023 WM Phoenix Open tee times, TV coverage, viewer’s guide

News

The WM Phoenix Open was already the most highly attended event on the PGA Tour. But the fan frenzy at TPC Scottdale will only increase in 2023, as this year’s tournament is the tour’s first full-field event to have “designated” status, bringing with it stacked field playing for a purse of $20 million with a first-place prize money payout of $3.6 million. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, the tournament also leads directly into a pretty important football game in the same town—Super Bowl LVII.

Scottie Scheffler looks to defend his 2022 title. His playoff victory over Patrick Cantlay a year ago was his first on the PGA Tour but jump-started a stretch that saw him win four times in six weeks, including the Masters, and climb to World No. 1. The reigning Player of the Year will be joined by a bevy of stars, featuring Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Shane Lowry, Collin Morikawa, Hideki Matsuyama and Patrick Cantlay. Eighteen of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are competing this week in the Arizona desert.

Beyond who will win the title, among the most anticipated parts of tournament week will be what happens on the par-3 16th, dubbed “The Coliseum” with grandstands surrounding the entire hole that hold 17,000 fans. Will they see another shot like the one from Sam Ryder a year ago, when he made his first career ace and the place did this …

In addition to the big payday, the winner also will receive 500 FedEx Cup points.
