A wild scene in the Palm Springs desert kept half the field of a college golf tournament from finishing their rounds on Tuesday.
Winds of more than 30 miles per hour swept through La Quinta and caused suspension in play of the Prestige at PGA West. The Twitter handle for the Baylor men’s golf team shared footage that showed just how gusty it got out there:
Wow. Looks like the heavy stuff isn’t going to come down through for awhile. Play is expected to resume on Wednesday morning, but the forecast is calling for winds up to 85(!) miles per hour, according to desertsun.com.
Pepperdine leads the team event by four shots over Stanford as both of those teams were able to complete their second rounds. Stanford’s Michael Thorbjornsen, No. 2 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, leads the individual competition.
The Prestige (great name) is being contested at PGA West’s Greg Norman Course. Jon Rahm won the PGA Tour’s annual Palm Springs stop last month, but we’re guessing even the World No. 1 wouldn’t have been able to shoot 27 under par in these conditions.
