Stanford gets exemption; major streak to hit 98

News

Angela Stanford received an exemption on Thursday to compete in the Chevron Championship, marking her 98th straight appearance in a major tournament.

The event is set for April 18-21 at The Club at Carlton Woods in The Woodlands, Texas. It will be the first of the five majors on the LPGA Tour schedule this year.

Stanford joined the LPGA Tour in 2001. The golfer from Texas, who is 46, has seven career LPGA victories, including one major, which came at the 2018 Evian Championship.

Stanford played in her first major in 2002 at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

“I’m beyond thrilled to receive this chance to play in The Chevron Championship, right here in my home state of Texas,” Stanford said in a news release. “When I began my LPGA Tour career in 2001, I couldn’t imagine the places my dream job would take me. Competing in 98 consecutive majors has so much to do with the people around me.”

Stanford played for the United States in six Solheim Cup events 2003-15 and was an assistant captain on the 2023 team.
