Titleist Tips: Pelvic Punch Drill for Distance Wedges

Videos
Distance wedges (shots that carry anywhere from 35-120 yards) represent a huge opportunity for scoring. The ability to hit full wedge shots accurately and with precise distance control is a critical skill that you need in order to make birdies on par-5s and short par-4s, and to save pars when you’re forced to recover after wayward tee shots. Great wedge players take dead aim at pins when they face shots in this range, but for many of us, hitting a full wedge shot is an anxious proposition, riddled with visions of deep, fat divots and skulled line drives over the green.

Fortunately, we have an easy solution from one of the most highly respected short game teachers in the business. In this video, Titleist staff member James Sieckmann explains that the key to hitting great distance wedges requires nothing more than a small shift in thinking. As James demonstrates with his “Pelvis Punch” drill, a shorter swing using a less lofted wedge will have you hitting penetrating, high spinning distance wedges that produce remarkably consistent results.

Give James’ drill a try and see how it can transform your full wedges into a new strength in your game.
