Now, the title of lone favorite belongs to Cameron Smith, who is fresh off a record-setting win at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. It was a performance so strong that, with the help of DeChambeau’s WD, it has made Smith a single-digit, 8-1 favorite to win the Sony outright. The young Aussie has officially arrived.
OK, so maybe you have to win a major to officially “arrive,” but any time you’re getting the single-digit odds treatment, you’re doing something right. It helps, too, that Smith is a former winner of the event, claiming his second career PGA Tour win at Waialae in a playoff against Brendan Steele in 2020.
Right behind Smith is Webb Simpson, who is as low as 12-1 and as high as 16-1, depending on where you look. Simpson, who is ranked 29th in the world, has played in just one event since November – the Hero World Challenge, where he finished in solo 17th in the 20-man field. Sungjae Im and Hideki Matsuyama check in next, while Smith’s fellow countryman Marc Leishman is also commanding some respect in the teens range. Kevin Na, the defending champ, is 30-1.
