Sunday at the Masters tends to bring it, and that will likely be the case on this Easter Sunday 2023, if only for the wall-to-wall golf that’s awaiting players and fans alike. The forecasted rains on Saturday came … and came … and came. To the point where the third round had to be called at 3:15 p.m. with the final group of Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm and Sam Bennett on the seventh green.
In turn, that sets up a marathon day with the weather hopefully cooperating (forecast call for the sun to pop out in the afternoon with temps in the 60s) to get everything done so Fred Ridley can ask Scottie Scheffler to slip on a green jacket and crown a new champion by nightfall.

And who will that be? Koepka looks rock steady in the tricky conditions on Saturday, extending his lead over Rahm to four shots with the next closest player, college start Bennett, seven back and the next closest professionals, eight back. In many ways it would appear that Koepka would have to slip for the tournament to become more than a two-man affair. But there’s a lot of golf left, so you never know.
While an exciting day awaits, it comes with some disappointment to. Early Sunday morning Tiger Woods withdrew from the event. It was hardly a surprise: he was last in the field, five over through six holes on his third round and walking so painfully that the entire golf community was almost hoping he’d stay away on Sunday. He had nothing more to prove having made the cut on Saturday and matching the record for the most consecutive cuts made at the Masters.
So, without further ado, lets settle in to see how the 87th Masters plays out on Sunday.
8:43 a.m.: And here’s a quick leaderboard reset:
8:39 a.m.: The cold remains at Augusta Natioanl, but the rain appears to be over. Here’s the weather forecast from Augusta:
8:33 a.m.: Horn blows to restart play. Leader Brooks Koepka is on the seventh green putting for par from 12 feet and missed it high right. That’s his first bogey in 29 holes. Now Rahm stands over a seven-foot birdie try … and makes it. And within three minutes Koepka’s four-shot lead is now down to two.
8:14 a.m.: Players are ushered off the practice range and into vans to get them back into position for the 8:30 restart.
