Brooks Koepka admits he (gulp) “choked away” the Masters, still seems in great spirits all things considered

News

There’s a scene in the second episode of Netflix’s “Full Swing” in which Brooks Koepka reveals an impressive trophy setup in his house. The shelves are full except for one big spot in the middle, which Koepka explains he’s keeping open for when he wins the Masters.

Fast forward a few months and Koepka nearly gave Netflix producers a perfect sequel episode for Season 2. Having gotten past the injuries and struggles portrayed in that episode, the four-time major champ marched to a four-shot lead at Augusta National when play was suspended midway through the third round. Alas, he wasn’t able to stay on top, finishing runner-up to Jon Rahm.

To Koepka’s credit, he met with the media after his heartbreaking loss and made no excuses. But ahead of his next crack at a major, he got even more candid about the result, going as far as to use golf’s (gulp) C-word while appearing on Barstool’s Pardon My Take podcast. Have a listen:

Wow, that’s just brutal honesty right there. You’ve got to applaud it, really.

And it’s good to see that Koepka seems in great spirits all things considered. Of course, it helps that since that Sunday, he and wife Jena Sims announced they are expecting their first child later this year. And just in the past couple days, Brooks revealed it’s a boy.

So there are certainly bigger things in life than that big opening in his trophy case. Although, collecting the third of a certain big trophy this week would make for a nice placeholder.
