2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic tee times, TV coverage, viewer’s guide

Tony Finau has a chance to do something he’s never done on the PGA Tour before: win the same tournament in back-to-back years. The 33-year-old tees it up this week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, where he claimed the title a year ago at Detroit Golf Club and is looking to win for the third time during the 2022-23 season.

Standing in his way will be, among others, a pair of two-time major champs, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa, along with a solid field featuring Max Homa, Keegan Bradley, Sungjae Im, Tom Kim, Hideki Matsuyama, Brian Harman and Rickie Fowler. Fowler has seven top-10 finishes already this season, but he hasn’t been able to seal the deal just yet. Apparent major champ mainstay Sam Bennett also will be playing this week on sponsor’s exemption; this will be his fifth event on tour as a pro and sixth this season. Gordon Sargent, low amateur at the U.S. Open, is also in the field.

Last year, the Rocket Mortgage Classic was the penultimate regular season event on the PGA Tour calendar. This year, however, there are six events following this one with many a pro jockeying for position to sneak into the FedEx Cup Playoffs. S.H. Kim is currently 71st on the FedExCup standings, sitting just outside the number to qualify for the Playoffs.

The winner will receive 500 FedEx Cup points and a $1.584 million share of the $8.8 million purse.
