The five words that epitomised the grandeur and importance of The 150th Open Championship. At the home of golf, St Andrews, it was time to celebrate the glorious tradition of the world’s oldest golf championship and drive it into an exciting future by crowning the next Open Champion.
Former champions, young pretenders and excited debutants all sought to lift the Claret Jug by the end of Sunday afternoon, but only one would walk away with the great honour.
From 156 players, four emerged as serious contenders at the start of the final day; Viktor Hovland, Rory McIlroy, Cameron Smith and Cameron Young. What followed was a gripping day of drama, heartbreak and triumph in front of thousands at The Old Course and the millions watching at home.
We look back at one of the Great Final Days at The Open in our new series.
